National Players Invitational
USA Baseball Complex
Saturday August 22 and Sunday August 23, 2009

Evaluations will be posted in alphabetical order approx. 10 players per day starting Sept 2, 2009

Information on 60yd times: As with many events, the conditions of the field can greatly effect the running times. Due to recent 'top dressing" of the fields and the soft condition of the turf, baseballclearinghouse.net scouts determed the track to be slow. Over 15 players at this event also attended multiple events this summer, therefore we have multiple sixty times on these players. It was determinded that the surface was between .3 and .4 tenths slow. The times for the sixties reflect .4 being deducted from each running time. baseballclearinghouse.net feels very strongly that this will better reflect each players actual running ability.

Domineke
Albert
Video
2011
Richland Northeast
Columbia, SC

Domineke Albert is a 2011- 5'9"/191lbs., primary catcher from Richlands Northeast HS in Columbia,SC who posted a 6.99 sixty time, a 5.02 forty time, and a 3.91 home to first base time. Domineke showed very quick hands and very quick release from behind the plate with 77mph velocity and 1.79 pop times. There is some effort in release and throws tend to drift off bag, but very good for a 2011. In the outfield he showed excellent arm strength with 88mph velocity on his throws with excellent right field carry. With excellent speed, he may have a future in the outfield. In the batters box he has advanced hitting skills with college power currently and college level bat speed. Short simple approach with excellent hand strength. Overall, Domineke is a very exciting 2011 player who will garner lots of college attention over the next two years, projected three tools with speed, arm strength, and bat.
Zach
Bach
2010
Frank W. Cox
Virginia Beach, VA
Zach Bach is a 2010- '6"3/195lbs., primary 3B from Cox HS in Virginia Beach,VA , who posted a 6.65 sixty time, a 4.71 forty time, and a 3.84 home to first base time. Zach put on a show in bp with college level tools. Excellent college to pro level bat speed and a very aggressive approach to the ball. Zach can drive the ball to all fields and projetcs as a high ave hitter in college. D1 tools with a frame that will only get stronger. Balanced throughout swing and we think he will hit at any level in college. In the field, Zach is a primary 3b who also plays SS. He is very athletic and shows d1 range. Long strides cover ground to each side with solid 78mph arm strength. Zach get is done with quick feet, tranfers, and release. Very athletic with ability to go into OF and perform right away. We believe the best "unknown" player in the state of Virginia, Zach resembles Ryan Zimmerman at the same stage of his high school career in both stature and talent..
Grayson
Bailey

2010
Frank W. Cox
Virginia Beach, VA
Grayson Bailey is a 2010- '6"1/185lbs., primary 1B from Cox HS in Virginia Beach, who posted a 7.14 sixty time, a 4.81 forty time, and a 4.19 home to first base time. Grayson has just tranfered to Cox HS for his senior season, he played at the Kent School in CT. A two way player who also goes on the mound. Grayson's running time was a little off of his personal best of 6.8 earilier this summer at our Hampton, VA event. Grayson worked out at first base and showed very soft hands and good footwork around the bag. Moves well off bag on double plays and is a d1 caliber player at first base. He showed solid 74mph arm strength across the infield during workout. Advanced tools at the plate, he swings it from the left side and shows college level bat speed. Very strong hand strength and college power to all fields, Grayson loads well and stays balanced throughout swing with very good leverage at contact. Good feel for off speed pitches and he will use the left field gap. Drove balls well low in the zone and should hit for a high average in College. On the mound this 2010 LHP shows deception and good life on his 83mph fb that he can spot on both sides of the plate. Grayson can drive a nice tight spinning 68mph cb on the back foot of right handed hitters for a excellent college level out pitch, and he can spot his 66 mph change up to his arm side with above ave hs life and command. Two way player with very good grades, definite high level D1 talent.
Brandon
Baranzini

2010
Montgomery HS
Santa Rosa, CA
Brandon Baranzini is a 2010- '5"9/175lbs., primary SS from Montgomery HS in Santa Rosa, CA , who posted a 7.29 sixty time, a 4.98 forty time, and a 4.53 home to first base time. Brandon is a primary SS and showed solid tools during the workout. Brandon has soft hands and playable 74mph arm strength. There is room to continue to add arm strength. Feet work well and he shows above ave hs range to both sides. Above ave hs body control on slow rollers. A RH hitter in the box, he shows college level tools. Brandon has strong legs and can drive the ball, with a whippy bat action he tends to reach some, however he does "get after it" and makes adjustements in the games. D1 caliber hitter with big power to come, we feel he will hit for a high average and for power in college at the highest level. We really like his bat and with ave footspeed we feel alot of college coaches will see Brandon as a third baseman.
Christopher
Becker

2010
Mahopic HS
Mahopic, NY
Christopher Becker is a 2010- '6"2/190lbs., primary RHP from Mahopic HS in Mahopic, NY, who posted a 8.68 sixty time, and a 5.85 forty time. Christopher is a RHP who is just starting to make the velocity jump his 6'2 frame is giving him. Christopher showed a 83mph fb from a short 3/4 arm slot. He tends to push the ball and has more velocity to come when he learns to extend his arm arch more on the backside. Christopher spun a 62 mph cb with ave hs action, again the short arm arch and pushing arm action cost him bite and velocity on the pitch. Christopher threw a 71mph change up with ave hs life and command. Our scouts noted that there is much more velocity in his arm when he learns to use his lower half better. He tends to not use his legs and cuts his arm arch off before he has time to develop arm speed and whip. With that said, we still feel there is mid to upper 80's in his arm and with work it should show. With more extention in his arm slot, he should have much better velocity, command, and life on all his pitches. Pitchers frame with more there.
Cyrus
Beerman

2011

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic

Tampa, FL
Cyrus Beermann is a 2011- '6"5/215lbs., primary RHP from Bishop McLaughlin HS in Tampa, FL , who posted a 7.68 sixty time, a 5.12 forty time, and a 4.41 home to first base time On the mound, Cyrus has a tall pitcher's frame at 6'5 who showed a 81mph fb with ave hs life and solid command, a 62mph cb with 12/6 shape. Cyrus works from a pronounced over the top arm slot and our scouts feel this does cost him life on his fastball. Cyrus does change his slot for his cb and better hitters will notice this. Our scouts feel that with this very good frame and a few mechanical changes with arm slot, Cyrus should be a mid to upper 80's arm with a better command and life on all his pitches including his breaking ball. Cyrus did not show a change up and this will be a pitch he needs to develop to compete at the next level. In the batters box. Cyrus who also plays first base and showed college level power with strong roatational torque in his swing during batting practice. A right handed hitter with 'big lift' power. Cyrus has very strong hands and whippy bat speed. Overall, a pitchers frame with velocity in it that, Cyrus will have to work to bring out.
Tyquill
Benson

2011
North HS
Hagerstown, MD
Tyquil Benson is a 2011- '6"0/165lbs., primary OF from North HS in Hagerstown, MD., who posted a 6.98 sixty time and a 4.84 forty time. Tyquil can hit and had a very good batting practice session showing off college level tools. Tyquil has a short, quick bat path with athletic balance throughout his swing. Very advanced hand strength for his age, he uses the whole field and attacks balls in all parts of the zone. Big upside with tools that should have him hitting for both high average and power in college. Tyquil is a primary outfielder with 78mph arm strength. Speed will allow him to play centerfield at some college programs, however his arm strength may keep him in leftfield. Tyquill has above ave high school tools and his ball show solid carry. Glides into throws and is athletic in actions. A 2011 who is still developing, look for spike in arm strength soon. Overall, Tyquill could end up being one of the best outfielders in the class of 2011 in the state of Maryland.
David
Berman
Video
2011
First Colonial HS
Virginia Beach, VA
David Berman is a 2011- '5"10/165lbs., primary catcher from Frist Colonial HS in Virginia Beach, VA , who posted a 7.24 sixty time, a 5.28 forty time, and a 4.28 home to first base time. David is a primary catcher who posted 74mph arm strength and 2.06 pop times from behind the dish. He is an easy reciever with good footwork. His throws tend to stay online and he has above ave high school accuracy. David also worked out in the outfield and showed college level arm strength progression. His throws have very good carry and the ball does get out of his hand quickly. Coaches will like his tools in the outfield. A left handed hitter, David showed above ave high school bat speed and the first signs of college power by hitting some deep balls in bp including a home run. David stays balanced in the box and has a short bat path to the ball. Slight rock back load with good extension through contact. David should continue to get stronger. David has a line drive swing plane and should wear the gaps out in college. As a hitter he is just turning the corner on 'next level' skill set. David is still very young in his muscle tone development and should really make jumps over the next year in strength and quickness. Definite college prospect.
Justin
Bhatti
Video
2011
Hylton HS
Woodbridge, VA
Justin Bhatti is a 2010- '6"3/160lbs., primary RHP from Hylton HS in Woodbridge, VA , who posted a very respectable 7.03 sixty time, a 5.15 forty time, and a 4.22 home to first base time. A RHP with a profile frame who is just starting to add strength. Justin showed a 84mph fb with solid command and life, a 69mph cb with 10/4 shape, and 69mph change up with ave hs command. Justin throws from a mid to ext 3/4 arm slot with ave hs effort in his release. Justin has a frame that with natural muscle development over the next year should produce more velocity. Justin falls into the catagory of a "work in progress" and our scouts feel there is reason to get excited about his future. Justin showed solid above ave high school hitting tools in batting practice. He stays balanced and does not overswing. With a future on the mound, he could swing the bat at certain college programs. Definite college prospect on the mound.
David
Birch

2010
Etowah HS
Woodstock, GA
David Birch is a 2010- '6"0/185lbs., primary RHP from Etowah HS in Woodstock, GA , who posted a 7.44 sixty time. On the mound, David is a RHP with some nice bite on his cb. Throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot, he has a compact and quick arm action. David posted a 86mph top velocity on his FB with ave hs life, 72mph cb velocity with college caliber 11/5 shape. Our scouts noted that this pitch is still developing, but showed excellent bite about half the time. David also has a 76mph change up he uses with ave hs command. In the infield workout David showed solid above ave high school arm strength with 82mph arm strength velocity. A third baseman with very good glove action and approach to the ball. Definite college tools in the field. A RH hitter who works from a tall, wide stance and a slight hand load to trigger. David showed above ave hs tools in batting practice with athletic actions in the box. Solid hand strength and solid bat speed should allow David to hit at the next level. Big upside on the mound, when everything comes together.
John
Bowman
Video
2010
First Colonial HS
Virginia Beach, VA
John Bowman is a 2010- '64"205/lbs., primary RHP from First Colonial HS in Virginia Beach, VA , who posted a 7.91 sixty time and a 5.44 forty time. John is a work horse on the mound, big and physical at 6'4, and he can chew up innings. With a no nonsense approach to hitters, he reaches back and lets it fly. Long arm arch on the backside and good lateral explosion to the plate, John showed a 85mph fb with solid life and above ave hs command. John's posted a 71mph cb with good spin and ave hs life. We have seen John earlier this summer and know he has an above ave hs change up though he didn't use it at this event. Look for a velocity jumps to continue and don't be surprised by upper 80's to low 90's fb soon. John does tend to rush his body in his delivery and his arm sometimes has to work to catch up. Athletic big and strong, he is a definite d1 talent who should get pro looks after three years of college. Big upside here. In the field at first base he shows ave hs tools with solid glove and footwork. John showed 70mph arm strength across the infield with above ave hs actions with his footwork on double plays. At the plate, John doesn't get cheated. He takes a big swing and shows good power. All or nothing type swing with aggression. Pitchers approach to hitting with good hand strength. Will need to add more consistant contact to be considered a hitting threat at the next level.
Connor
Bradley

2010
Trinity Episcopal HS
Midlothian, VA
Connor Bradley is a 2010- '6"6/210lbs., primary RHP from Midlothian HS in Richmond, VA , who posted a 7.45 sixty time, a 5.12 forty time, and a 4.61 home to first base time. On the mound Connor is a RHP who has good mound presence with his 6'6 frame. Connor will change arm slots and tends to go with an ext 3/4 slot. He showed a 83mph fb with solid life and ok command. His cb could be his best pitch with tight spin and very good command at 69mph. Connor can use his cb in any count. As far as a change up, he does have good sinking action on the 75mph pitch with ave hs command. Projection is the key with Connor, he has a college level cb now and projected upper 80's velocity on his fast ball. With a long lean pitchers frame, expect continued progression. With the bat, he swings from the right hand side with college level power. Connor does have a "pitchers swing" with lots of lift in it, with that he does hit the ball a long way. Connor hits from a un-orthodox stance (pronounced crouch- with 6'6 frame) and tends to have a "drop lift' swing plane. Connor shows ave hs hitting ability. In the outfield, Connor showed solid 78mph arm velocity and ave college tools when receiving and throwing the ball. Ave college carry on his throws. Very interesting college pitching prospect.
Nick
Bryant

2010
Tabb HS
Yorktown, VA

In the field , Nick showed good hands at third base and college level release times. We have seen Nick post a 6.85 sixty time at an earlier event this summer and know he is much quicker than his sixty time indicates. Nick can swing it and should be a outstanding hitter at the college level. A RH hitter, he is balanced and quick in the box with ave college bat speed and power. Nick will use the field and can drive the gaps with a very smooth, line drive swing plane. Nick is quiet in the box and loads his leverage well and showed excellent, advanced power with a 91mph radar tee exit velocity reading. Look for Nick to be a 3,5,6 hole hitter at a d1 level type program. Advanced hitting tools. He had 81mph arm velocity across the infield in the workout and showed college level glove and footwork. True third baseman who will block and knock anything down that comes his way. Nick can also go on the mound. The RH showed a 80mph fb, a 70mph cb, and a 70mph change up. Nick can throw strikes and get ground balls, not a primary pitcher, he is used by his high school team. Athletic enough to pitch, however all his other tools play at a much higher level than his pitching. Hitting, running, and his glove will interest college coaches. Excellent academic's

Pro level power, Scott posted a 95mph radar tee exit velocity which was off his national best of 98mph he posted at an event earlier this summer. Light pole power with metal, Scott should put up big power number in college. Falls into the category of "the most under rated players' in state of Virginia. Pro level bat speed and very strong , advanced strength in his athletic frame. Simple approach in the box with big time explosion at contact. National level power. Behind the plate, Scott showed pro level arm strength with 85mph velocity on his throws. His pop times also placed him in the pro caliber as far as quickness is concerned with 1.88 pop times. Gunnar is a RHP with very good arm strength and a polished cb. He showed 86mph velocity on his fb with college life and command, 73mph on a tight spinning cb with sharp 11/5 angles, and a 78mph change up that he leaves up in the zone a little too much. Gunnar has a polished delivery with very good arm speed from a high 3/4 arm slot. Advanced tools on the mound. Gunnar should be a low 90's arm by the spring of 2010 and is a definite strong d1 talent who should get pro interest. Gunnar is a primary pitcher who also worked out in the outfield. Gunnar is a pitcher who can swing the bat. A RH hitter who is very athletic in the box, Gunnar had a very good round of bp. Many Coaches saw Gunnar at the VA Commonwealth Games where he also hit very well. Wirey and strong, he has college bat speed and college hand strength. In the box he is a medium frame player who swings from a wide stance. Uses the field and shows above ave hs bat speed and hand strength. Scouts noticed he could get more leverage out of his lower half, and could develop a more direct bat path to the ball. Showed above ave hs power and will use the entire field. Interesting power potential with a few minor adjustments. Right now the glove seems to be a little ahead of his bat, but that could change quickly. Appears to be starting to put it all together. Strong follow and definite college projection.

Richard can get short on the backside arch, he does get back on top to spin his cb. Good frame that projects add strength and height. A fierce competitor who will not over power any hitter with fastball right now, however will stand very good hitters on their heads with "Bugs Bunny" life on the change up, even when they know it is coming. Excellent arm speed on off speed pitches keeps hitter guessing. One college coach commented to our scout that "he throws his off speed stuff in very well"...."do you realize how hard that is to do".... With that you can say he knows how to pitch backwards with confidence. Look for continued increase in velocity with college projection on tools.

Jason Ellington is a 2010- '6"0/220lbs., primary RHP from Warwick HS in Newport News, VA , who posted a 7.76 sixty time, a 4.69 home to first base time. Jason is a workhorse and has strong legs and barrel chest frame and throws from a mid 3/4 arm slot with ave hs effort. Simple delivery with good arm arch on the back side. Our scouts feel there is more velocity in his arm and should compete well in college. Competes well and has good mound presence Look for continued velocity increases. At first base, Jason showed excellent actions around the bag in the games and posted a college level arm velocity grade of 83mph during workout. Jason has soft hands and good footwork around the bag and can handle short hops. Experienced glove and actions at first base. In the batters box, Jason shows pro level power. With 12 hr's in his high school season this past spring and big hand strength, this tells us he can hit for big time power in college. Some lift in his swing, he stays back well and can drive the ball to the deepest part of the park. College hand strength and bat speed, Jason uses a simple knee turn trigger to get started and will go and get it. Athletic big framed body with college level defensive tools at first base and could hit for power, however , many coaches will want to keep Jason on the mound. Really strong body with big potential.

College level OF tools now, with even more projection. In the infield he showed 81mph arm velocity and ave college tools. Still solid in the infield, most coaches might want to see James in the outfield. James is a RH hitter who gets good extension through contact. James showed college level tools at the plate with whippy bat action and college level hand strength. James can stay back on the ball well and uses the entire field. Tall, lanky frame that should continue to add strength, and with strength will come very good leverage. Could show big power in college. College projection, very interesting...

John posted 85mph fb velocity with above ave hs life and command, 73mph cb velocity with 10/4 shape and solid life. Our scouts noted that there is more velocity in the arm and could be brought out by better online finish of delivery and a more direct arm path towards the plate during his motion. John sometimes looses some velocity by pushing across the ball at release. John was very effective and struck out 4 hitters in two innings of work. Developing with more to come, John could be a real pick up for a program he can grow in.
Justin
Hunt

2010
Glenn HS

Justin has a loose arm action and throws from a over the top arm slot with normal arm effort. Justin has a good frame and a delivery that should continue to add velocity. The change up is the pitch that could use the more work at developing better life, however, he does maintain arm speed and showed above ave hs command of the pitch. Developing with college projection, upper 80's velocity projection and solid cb for use on college hitters.

Scott showed 80mph arm velocity in the workout and moved well through throws. A thirdbaseman with above ave high range. Keeps the ball in front and has very good body control on slow rollers. College projection on tools. On the mound Scott is a RHP with 84mph fb that shows nice sink, 71mph cb with 10/4 shape, and a 71mph change up with nice glove side sink. Scott has average hs effort in his delivery and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Body and frame suggest much more velocity in his arm, look for big things here. Strong college projection on the mound. Two way talent.

A RH hitter, Corey hits from a tall stance and stays back well. He showed above ave college level power and our scouts noted 'there is more strength in the lower half of his body he has not gotten to yet. Big power projection with continued improvement of lower half leverage. Top level type hitter. Too many tools to keep of the field, he can go behind the plate and also in the outfield if necessary. Speed and frame may have college coaches thinking RF if stacked too deep at catching. Top level D1/Pro type skills.

Grafton HS
Grafton, VA
Ryan Johansen is a 2010- '6"0/185lbs., primary OF from Grafton HS in Grafton,VA., who posted a 6.67 sixty time, a 4.84 forty time, and a 3.91home to first base time. In the field, Ryan has big range from very good footspeed and showed college level arm strength with 82mph velocity on throws. Ryan is very quick and gets into position well. There is still room to smooth out his throwing motion a bit and he should only get better. College projection on tools. At the plate, Ryan swung the bat very well showing college level hitting abiltiy and power. Ryan has a line drive swing plane with very good hand strength and bat speed. Our scouts noted that his lower half is late on many swings and he still shows excellent power, with a few adjustments he should really show big time bat speed and power. Ryan hit the ball much better at this event than he did at the Virginia Commonwealth Games earlier in the summer. There was a marked improvement in performance and college coaches should take notice. Ryan showed definite college projection on bat and with excellant footspeed and college average arm strength should fit into the D1 mix.

Athletic and strong, Chase is still developing with big time projection on tools. In the batters box, Chase shows college level power with exceptional hand strength. A RH hitter with balance and leverage in his swing, Chase should put up big numbers in college. Simple, quiet approach, with very short bat path to the ball. Chases uses the whole field and shows his bet power to his pull side. Advanced hitting tools. Chase has advanced muscle tone for his age and from the looks of it, likes to work out. All the muscles are in the right places and his speed and arm strength will play in any spot in the OF. Very interesting and type of player who will get pro interest after 3 years of college development. Top Level D1 tools.

Behind the plate , Lukas showed ave college level arm strength posting a 76mph velocity reading and 2.06 pop time. Look for the pop time to continue to quicken. Lukas has good footwork and stays in shape throughout his throwing delivery. Lukas also worked out in the outfield and showed very solid 83mph arm velocity and college level carry on throws. With good footspeed, could be two player in college. Lukas is a RH hitter with advanced hitting skills. Lukas showed college level bat speed and power with very good leverage in swing. Luaks gets very good out front extension after contace and is very short to the ball. Big upside here, looks for big production in the 2/3 hole in college with gap to gap power for the 5/6 hole in the line up. Very good hitting tools. Lukas is a catcher who can run and hit with very solid catching tools, more of a offensive catcher for the next level. A 2011 with a big upside.

Gary has a very short and quick stroke in the batters box with ave college level hitting tools. Exceptional at using the entire field, Gary will make a great lead off hitter at a top d1 program. Look for him to be able to drag bunt for base hits and steal a ton of bases. Gary shows ave college power and his speed and ability to hit for a high average should excite college coaches. With a medium frame and ave build, Gary did show very good hand strength witha 88mph exit velcoity on the radar tee. Center field range and right field arm strength, Gary is an athletic, 2011, player with big upside projection. Tools....hit, run, arm , developing power...could be a real eye opener after three years of college for pro scouts.

Brian Lee is a 2011- '5'10/155lbs., primary 2B from Cox HS in Virginia Beach,VA., who posted a 6.95 sixty time, a 4.69 forty time, and a 4.07 home to first base time. Brian is a very solid infielder with above ave hs range. Built more for 2b, he can also play at SS. Brian has a poilished glove and get into postion very well. With soft hands and good transfers, look for Brian to be able to work the backside of the double play at second base. Brian showed 74mph arm strength from the SS hole during the workout, this might keep him on the right side of the infield for now. With a medium frame and ave hs muscle tone Brian might look the part of a slap type HS hitter but he is far from that. Brian can rake, with very fast hands and a very short bat path to the ball. Brian has a line drive swing plane and can wait on the ball. By tracking the ball deep, Brian gets great leverage and shows ave college hitting tools right now. Brian has above ave hs power and look for his speed and ability to hit to all fields to make him a very desirable college player. Lead off type or 2 hole hitter in college, look for d1 projection on tools. Young and very interesting, a name you will hear much more from.

Blake Leebrick is a 2010- '6"0/185lbs., primary C from Kellam HS in Virginia Beach, VA., who posted a 7.33 sixty time, a 5.15 forty time, and a 4.42 home to first base time. In the batters box, Blake swing it from the RH side with good balance and above ave hand strength. A simple set up with very little movement, Blake tends to pre load his swing. His bat bat path is short, and at times can get too short. Our scouts feel there is much more power available by backing off the plate and getting more consistant extention at contact. Very consistant at putting the ball in play. There is enough lift in his swing to generate fly balls for players who can get on in front of him in rbi situations. Blake should be a solid middle of the line up type hitter at the next level. Behind the plate , Blake showed college level arm strength posting a 77mph velocity reading and registering a 1.96 best pop time. Blake showed college level blocking skills and advanced footwork. Blake is a great catcher to handle cb pitchers who leave ball short. Blake is advanced in blocking to a ball and also handles high velocity pitchers well. Blake is very solid with a nice athletic frame for a catcher. Runs well for a catcher and handles pitchers well. College projection on tools.
Greg
Loeb

Quince Orchard HS
Gaithersburg, MD
Greg Loeb is a 2010- '6"0/185lbs., primary RHP from Quince Orchard HS in Gaithersburg,MD., who posted a 7.84 sixty time, a 5.55 forty time, and a 4.5 home to first base time. Greg is a RHP with a easy arm action and normal hs arm speed. Greg throws from a "over the top" arm slot and stays online throughout delivery. Greg posted a 76mph fb with ave hs live, a 61mph cb that we only saw twice, and a 62mph change up that showed downward life. Greg used both sides of the plate with solid hs command and his change up showed spotty tumbling life. Greg has a nice frame that is still developing strength and he should continue to add velocity. Greg could show his cb more and this would give him more looks to show the hitters. Greg falls into the catagory that most HS players do as a "work in progress'". With natural strength progession, Greg should be able to pitch at the next level.

David Lutz is a 2011- '5"7/150lbs., primary 2B from Gloucester HS in Gloucester,VA., who posted a 7.44 sixty time, a 5.43 forty time, and a 4.5 home to first base time. Hitting is David's best tool. David showed ave college hitting skills with ave college power. A RH hitter with great feel for the ball. David shows advanced ability to read the ball and react without getting off balance. Young and good with big time upside. National level hittin g tools. David is blanced and athletic in the box and can hit the ball deep in the zone. David uses all field and might not look the part of a d1 3 hole hitter in the line up at 5'7, but he can do it. David showed good arm strength for a second baseman in the workout by posting a 78mph arm velocity reading on his throws. Arm strength that will allow him to turn the double play from the backside of the bag at second base. David has good feet and quick hands with very good glove action on ground balls. True 2b tools should keep him on the right side of the infield. David does alot of thing right and should make a very good player at the next level. Scouts comparison noted he plays the game with a Predroa type approach. Don't over look him at a very good d1 talent.

Matt Mathews is a 2011- '"/lbs., primary C from Greenbrier Christian HS in Chesapeake, VA. , who posted a 7.95 sixty time, a 5.71 forty time, and a 4.59 home to first base time. Matt is a primary catcher with very solid tools behind the dish for a 2011. Matt's tool is his bat. Matt posted a 91mph exit velocity on the radar tee which ranks as one of the top numbers we have seen this year from around the country for a player in the class of 2011. A RH hitter with excellent balance and leverage coming from a simple stance with very little movement when loading. Matt has a very short bat path and can get to the ball in any part of the strike zone. Projects to be a high average hitter with power. Still developing, so no real limit in sight for hitting ability. Our scouts noted,,,very good low in the zone with much more to come. National level hitting tools. Matt posted a 73mph arm strength velocity and a best 2.09 pop time. We feel Matt is at that point when catchers really begin to shave time off the pop time. Matt has a good frame for a catcher and moves well behind the dish. His release is smooth with average effort and his throws tend to stay near the bag. Matt is versitale and took a turn on the mound pitching showing a 79mph fb with ave hs life and a 66mph cb with ave hs spin and life. Matt threw both pitches with command and this allowed him to compete well. Does not try to "overdo it" on the mound. Look for continued improvement as he continues to mature. Very exciting to watch in the future.

Jack has advanced command on all his pitches and competes. Jack showed a 84mph fb with college level glove side run, a 72mph cb with 11/5 shape that breaks hard and late, and a 77mph change up with advanced college level downard action. Jack has a smooth, polished delivery with college level arm speed and easy effort. Throwing from a extended 3/4 arm slot, he generates lots of arm whip with a clean online delivery. Jack future is on the mound , but he did swing the bat very well in batting practice and could hit in the "right" college line up. In the infield he worked out at secondbase and showed 81mph arm velocity across the infield. Athletic and could make a line up as a positional player at certain schools. D1 tools with a arm and frame that projects at upper 80's low 90's by freshman spring in college, Jack is a very interesting RH arm with "college out pitch" CB. Scouts noted frame and arm action that usually gets pro interest after 3 years in college.
Brett

Newport News, VA
Brett Mays is a 2011- '6"6/190lbs., primary RHP from Woodside HS in Nepwort News, VA, who posted a 7.29 sixty time, a 5.01 forty time, and a 4.41 home to first base time. In batting practice, Brett showed ave to better hitting tools with above ave hs power. Brett has a profile fram for a pitchere with 6'6 height and long arms. Brett showed 82mph velocity on fb with above ave hs life, a 71mph cb with 11/5 shape and good spin, and a 77mph slider with nice cutter like action. All pitches had above ave hs command. Scouts noted that he looks to be on the brink of big velocity jump. A clean delivery with good arm extention on the back should help with velocity. Competes well and uses both sides of the plate with fb and can really run slider away from RH hitters for very nice out pitch. A 2011 who will get stronger, look for solid mid 80's velocity real soon and low 90's possibility over the next 18 months. Very interesting young pitcher with definite high level college projection. Brett hits from a tall stance and does have some lift in his swing. Brett showed above ave hs hand strength and above ave hs bat speed. Tall 6'6 frame generates leverage at contact with ave hs feel for the pitches. Primary pitcher who is athletic enough to swing it in HS. Future is on the mound, strong follow for any college program.
John
McCann

2010
St. Christophers' HS
Richmond, VA
John McCann is a 2010- '6"2/175lbs., primary RHP from St. Christophers' HS in Richmond,VA. John is a primary RH pitcher with good command and ability to work both sides of the plate. John throws from a mid 3/4 slot with ave hs effort and uses a short arm arch on the backside to generate velocity. John has a athletic frame and above ave hs arm strength and a nice frame to continue to build upon. John posted 82mph fb with ave college sink, 63mph cb with with rolling type action out of the zone, and a 68 mph change up that he threw with above ave hs command. Unseen by many college coaches due to missing most of the summer due to resting an injury, John is still getting his arm back up to speed. Look for mid 80's velo real soon, and upper 80's velo in the next 18 months. Our scout noted that his delivery is very deliberate and believes that he will get more leverage from his lower half with a simple adjustment of speeding his delivery up. Also a little more length on the backside arm arch should add velo to both fb and cb. Lot more in the tank. Competitor and definite college projection.

Deep Creek, HS
Chesapeake, VA
Aarron Nardone is a 2010- '5"11/160lbs., primary C from Deep Creek HS in Chesapeake, VA., who posted a 6.99 sixty time, a 5.10 forty time, and a 4.13 home to first base time. He stays balanced and has tremendous leverage at contact. Aarron hits from a wide base with very little stride and slight rock back loading action. He likes the gaps and will drive the ball to the wall in either gap. A top of the line up hitter with big projection for batting average and rbi's at the next level. Bat speed and quickest that will allow him not to get tied up by high velocity pitching. Aarron has national level hitting tools. Behind the plate Aarron showed 73mph arm strength and best 2.06 pop time. We have seen him in the 1.9's earlier this summer. Comfortable behind the dish with soft hands and frames well. Semi jump turn throwing motion with above ave hs carry on his throws at the bag. College tools behind the plate. Very solid behind the plate, Aarron is not a catch/throw catcher, he is a offensive hitter who can come into a d1 line up and produce as a freshman.

Our scouts likes Billy better in the outfield where his body moved easier and helped drive through his release on his throws. Billy posted a 79mph arm strength grade with above ave hs carry on his throws. Billy looks more comfortable in the ouftfield and glides into and through his release well. On the mound Billy showed ave hs velocity with 76mph fb velocity from a mid 3/4 arm slot with ave hs effort. Travis Parker is a 2010- '6"2/186lbs., primary SS from Carolina Forest HS in Conway,SC., who posted a 7.25 sixty time, a 5.29 forty time, and a 4.38 home to first base time. Travis can mash. Travis shows signs of pro level power and ability to drive the ball out of any side of the field. Big time bat speed and leverage at contact with big gap to gap threat. There is some lift in his swing and he should post very good HR/RBI numbers in college. Posted 88mph exit velocity on the radar tee, and we like his approach and feel he is a 2/3/4 hole hitter at a strong college program. In the infield workout, Travis showed 71mph arm strength across the infield with solid hs actions. Looks best suited for third base with soft hands and will get in front of the ball. Our scouts would like to see Travis continue to develop more arm strength to go with big time bat. Bat should play at a very high level.

Brandon moves well to the ball and showed college level carry on his throws with very nice accuracy. Brandon is a RH hitter with good power. Brandon showed good hand strength and very good pull power. Brandon has a easy loading action and could get more leverage out a more active lower half. Our scouts feel there is more power to come. His swing is balanced and has a short path to the ball. Our scouts noticed his swing can get a little wristy, so we are sure there is more in the tank. Good pitchers frame and time to fill out, we feel there is more velocity to come, solid college projection. Very interesting 2011.

Tyler showed 81mph fb velcoity, 71mph cb with good shape, and a 69mph change up he can throw with above ave hs command. Position player who can pitch and could get the job done on the mound at certain programs. Tyler is a player who we feel is on the edge of a big breakout in all areas. He is already a very good runner, has a frame that will continue to get stronger, shows very good college power at times, can throw from the outfield. Very interesting and should raise alot of eyebrows over the next 18 months. We feel Tyler is the type of player who really arrives in the spring of the senior season. Shaun posted a 81mphfb with ave hs life, a 69mph cb with good break. Shaun throws strikes and gets hitters off balance and behind in the count. A little more velocity will really help him at the next level and he does have a frame to build on. For a primary pitcher, Shaun hit very well. He showed above ave hs bat speed and above ave hs power. He has a whippy bat action and goes and gets it. Shaun hits from a wide stance and barrels a very high % of his swings. Wirey strong and gets all 150lbs. into it, very interesting to see power output as he gets bigger. Swings very well for a listed primary pitcher. A RHP with a great pitchers frame and long quick arms. Jeremy posted a 85mph fb velocity with ave hs command and life, a 66mph cb that shows 11/5 shape and good tilt. Jeremy does work downhill very well, however out scouts noted a very short arm arch ont he backside that cost him velocity and command on his fastball. Jeremy has a lot more in the tank and we see 90's down the road, there are some stiff points in his delivery that need to be smoothed out including fair amount of evelation at release. Huge upside in the arm and frame. Big time college projection with work. Jeremy showed pro level 88mph arm strength in the outfield workout gliding into his throws and showing pro level carry on his throws. RF arm strength and speed to cover big parts of the gaps. We have Sam up to 87mph fb earlier in the summer and a bulldog competitor who rises to challenges. Very good mound prescence and make up to throw any pitch in any count. Definite college projection...could be real good.

Matt Wade is a 2010- '6"1/185lbs., primary 3B from Northwood HS in Chapel Hill, NC., who posted a 7.14 sixty time and a 5.13 forty time. Matt can rake and was one of the best hitters at the event. Ryan has a pitchers frame and his mechanics are solid. Look for his velocity to continue to rise as he matures. What surprised us was that he swung the bat very well for a listed pitcher only. Ryan took batting practice and showed very good tools. He hit with ave above college power and was very athletic in the box. Ryan showed very good balance in his swing with a good short, quick stroke. Not any wasted motion and he does not try to overswing. Waited on the ball and went with the pitch. College level hitter.

A 2011 who is still developing and not far off from looking like a d1 short stop. Young and could get really strong over the next 18 months. We have seen Kyle over the last two seasons steady increases in arm strength, power, and overall strength. Kyle is atheltic and appears to work hard. Definite college projection, but hard to say how high, due to the fact he gets better everytime we see him...could be real high.

Plus amr strength in the outfield, outstanding athletic actions at third base ,and above ave college to pro power at the plate. Definite two way D1 candidate. Some lift in swing and even more power to come from a lower 1/2 that can be a little late getting engaged. Showing nice college level pull power with much more in the tank. Big upside power projection in college. Kyle worked out in both the infield and outfield and our scouts thought he showed better as a infielder. In the infield he showed 71mph arm strength with well above ave hs tools. Soft hands and good tranfers should grow into a nice college infielder. We have seen James earlier this season post a 60 in the 7.02 range. James is a "grinder" who likes to get dirty. James has a second baseman's frame and showed 74mph arm strength across the infield. Works well on the right side of the bag and has sure hands and a swift release. Transfers the ball well and has enough arm strength to turn double plays. Gets into position well for ground balls and showed solid range to both sides. Comfortable around the bag. In the box, James is a rh hitter with quiet approach. Pre loads and stays back on the ball well showing above ave hs power. James as solid bat speed and good mechanics in his approach. James has hs ave to better hand strength and will use the field. Seems to fit the role of situational hitter with enough speed to stay out of many double plays. James fits into the right college program for his skill set....knows the game and can play it.
